In July 2018 members of Pink Phurree Breast Cancer Survivor dragon boat team will travel to Florence, Italy to participate in the International Beast Cancer Paddlers Commission (IBCPC) Festival.
The IBCPC Dragon Boat Festival is held every four years and for the first time since its institution in 2005, it will take place in Continental Europe: in Italy! The Festival will be held July 6 -8 on the Arno River in historic Cascine Park, Florence’s largest public park.
The IBCPC has 166 breast cancer survivor (BCS) teams on five continents. Its mission is to encourage the establishment of breast cancer dragon boat teams, encouraging participation and inclusiveness and support the development of recreational dragon boat paddling as a contribution to a heathy lifestyle for those diagnosed with breast cancer.
The first IBCPC Festival, held in Vancouver, Canada, had 1,400 paddlers. Participation grew to over 3,000 international paddlers in the 2014 Sarasota, Florida Festival. Pink Phurree BCS was one of those 101 participating teams.
